Recently Facebook introduced the seen feature where the user is notified each time a friend reads/views/opens the message that he/she sent. When this feature was introduced I wrote an article about it which I titled “Meaning Of “Seen HH:MM” On Facebook Chat“. Following the comments that were given on that article many people raised concern about their privacy. Many of them never wanted their friends to know when they read/view/open the messages they sent to them and they needed a way to go over that. Lucky enough a certain developer must have heard them yearning for a way out and came up with a solution to that issue.
The solution that stops/disables the facebook seen feature is a Chrome extension called Facebook Unseen. This automatically means this solution is only for people who access facebook using the Chrome browser.
According to the developer of the Facebook Unseen extension, he describes it as follows
Description of the Facebook Unseen Extension for Chrome
Facebook Unseen protects your privacy by preventing others from knowing when you have “seen” their messages.
Facebook chat’s new “seen at…” feature presents a real privacy concern for many users. Take control of your privacy with this lightweight extension that prevents the sender of a message from knowing when you read it.
The following are some of the things that you can do the Facebook Unseen Extension for Chrome.
- turn on and off Facebook Unseen at any time
- view how many messages have been “Unseen”
- prevent awkward social interactions
This extension which I guess many Facebook users who are so much concerned about privacy will go for can be got from https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/gfjpoahaombpolfifdahikhbdnjjeifk/
